Additech TechnologyUnder the terms of a multi-year agreement, Afton Chemical provides Additech specialty additive packages that meet specific performance requirements. Our resulting fuel additives contain a high and a low temperature cleaner to remove deposits from the fuel intake system and the combustion chamber as well as a friction modifier to help pistons move more freely. Friction modifiers are critical for the upper part of the engine, one of the primary sources of power loss. Our additives are only available at the pump and are not sold in bottles. Additech anticipates developing other formulations with Afton Chemical for its at-pump services specifically related to improving the performance of vehicles utilizing diesel and biofuels. Additech Dual Detergency ProtectionTMPRODUCT OVERVIEWAdditech sells unique and patented fuel system cleaner from Afton Chemical that takes advantage of Additech’s unique at-pump blending capabilities. We refer to this technology as Dual Detergency Protection™. It is comprised of three different chemistries, which together clean-up engine deposits and protect critical fuel system parts:
ENGINE DEPOSITS - IMPACT ON PERFORMANCEEngine Deposits - Overview In internal combustion engines, through normal wear and tear, carbon deposits can build-up on an engine’s critical fuel system parts – fuel injectors, intake valves, piston tops, and on the head of the combustion chamber.
As engine deposits build-up, they compromise an engine’s operational efficiency by changing the amount of fuel and air being delivered into the combustion chamber, and the air-fuel mixture ratios inside the combustion chamber. Consumers often recognize the symptoms of deposit build-up when their vehicles hesitate, knock, lose power, or suffer a loss in fuel economy. The photos below demonstrate the differences that would be typical between parts where carbon build-up has occurred through normal vehicle operation on gasoline and parts that have been cleaned-up with Additech’s Dual Detergency Protection™. Fuel Injector Deposits Dirty PFI Clean PFI
Carbon deposits impede PFI fuel flow, causing less complete combustion. Intake Valve Port Deposits Dirty Intake Valve Clean Intake Valve
Intake valve port and other combustion chamber deposits are the hardest to remove.
Combustion Chamber Deposits Dirty Clean
Carbon deposits reduce the fuel and air intake into the combustion chamber.
ADDITECH FRICTION MODIFIER In addition to the two powerful detergents, Additech fuel additives contain a friction modifier, which reduces friction between an engine’s upper cylinder walls and its piston rings (an area that is often under-lubricated by a vehicle’s crank case lubricants).
Additech’s friction modifier, delivered in the fuel, helps reduce engine friction and wear, and improve fuel economy. Depending upon a vehicle’s operating condition and driving characteristics up to 10% of the energy released by combustion is used to overcome the internal frictional energy losses of the engine. A significant portion of this frictional energy loss occurs in the upper cylinder of the engine –between the piston rings and the upper cylinder walls where very tight part tolerances block crankcase oil from effectively lubricating the upper cylinder. In addition, the friction modifier in Additech’s Dual Detergency Protection™ technology helps protect against the corrosive nature of ethanol gasoline blends. Surface active molecules help protect fuel injection equipment from wear in high ethanol fuels.
ADDITECH DUAL DETERGENCY PROTECTION™ - DEMONSTRATED CLEANING PERFORMANCE Engine Deposit Keep Clean: Four different vehicles were operated for 5,000 miles on gasoline containing Additech’s Every Day Engine Care, a product designed to clean-up and maintain clean fuel systems. The intake valves in these vehicles’ engines were examined at the end of the test and were found to be much cleaner than typical intake valves operated in normal LAC gasoline.
Engine Deposit Clean-Up: Four different vehicles were operated for 10,000 miles on Lowest Additive Concentration (LAC) gasoline. Each vehicle was then operated for 300 miles and 1500 miles on gasoline treated with Additech Mileage Booster. In the 300 mile clean-up test, the Additech additive removed an average of 35% of the intake valve deposits left behind by the LAC gasoline. In the 1500 mile test, the Additech additive removed an average of 47% of the intake valve deposits left behind by the LAC gasoline.
